Occurred: April 2, 2023 | Location: Piura, Peru | Category: Weather

Piura City, Piura Province, Peru - On April 2nd, 2023, Piura Province was hit by a severe flood caused by intense rainfall. The rains were triggered by the summer storm in Máncora, a popular tourist destination in the area. The heavy downpour lasted for about an hour and a half, causing three ravines to be activated after almost 25 years. The current devastated everything in its path, blocking roads, and leaving hundreds of travelers stranded. The Cabo Blanco ravine, also known as 'La Pepa', was one of the three ravines that were activated, causing severe damage. The torrential rain caused flooding in the area, and trucks were taken away by the current. The La Cruz district highway was completely blocked, forcing hundreds of travelers to walk to reach their destination. The flooding caused by the activation of the ravines has affected several districts in Piura Province. Families and tourists who were enjoying the beaches and the summer in Máncora were surprised by the fall of huaicos that caused flooding after the streams nearby were activated. The situation was dire, with the water current blocking roads and leaving people stranded.
