Volcán de Fuego erupts with towering lava fountains over Antigua, Guatemala

On August 4, 2026, in Antigua, Guatemala, @peytonnkennedy shared a video showing the dramatic overnight eruption of Volcán de Fuego. In the video, Fuego erupts across the valley, sending bright orange and red lava fountains hundreds of meters above its crater while dense ash plumes rise into the night sky. The intense activity creates a striking nighttime scene visible from Volcán Acatenango, with glowing lava illuminating the surrounding slopes. According to reports, the eruption produced ash columns reaching several kilometers high and generated dangerous pyroclastic flows along ravines on the volcano's slopes. The heightened activity prompted precautionary measures around the popular Acatenango area.
