Unusual horned unicornfish caught aboard fishing boat in Weihai, Shandong, China

On October 16, 2026, in Weihai, Shandong, China, @Yònghùxiǎowáng shared a video of a unicornfish caught at sea. In the video, a person holds the fish aboard a boat as it continues flapping its fins and moving its mouth, revealing its unusual appearance. Known as the bluespine unicornfish (Naso unicornis), this marine species belongs to the surgeonfish family and is named for the horn-like projection that develops on the forehead of adults. It also has sharp, blue-edged spines near the base of its tail, which help distinguish it from other fish. Despite its small mouth, it has rows of teeth adapted for feeding on algae and other marine food sources. Found around coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific, the bluespine unicornfish can grow to about 70 centimeters long.
