Tibetan brown bear lifts metal drain cover along mountain road in Tibet, China

On August 18, 2026, in Tibet, China, @Shānyīngdàinǐkànshìjiè shared a video of a wild Tibetan brown bear investigating a roadside drainage system near parked vehicles. In the video, the bear uses its left front paw to lift a heavy metal storm drain grate from its slot, exposing the drainage trench underneath. It then peers into the opening, seemingly investigating what might be inside. According to the author, the bear's intelligence and dexterity are comparable to those of a seven- or eight-year-old child. The author also notes that the bear appears unafraid of nearby humans and advises people to keep their distance if they encounter one.
