Severe thunderstorm unleashes torrential rain and damaging winds in North Phoenix, USA

On October 21, 2026, in North Phoenix, Arizona, USA, @BobMcClay shared a video of a severe thunderstorm sweeping through a residential neighborhood near 32nd Street and Union Hills Drive. In the video, torrential rain lashes a backyard, viewed from beneath a covered patio. Rainwater darkens patches of the concrete floor, while a green lawn and trees in the background are barely visible through the thick, gray curtain of rain. According to reports, the storm brought powerful straight-line wind gusts reaching 60 mph and golf ball-sized hail across parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The severe weather damaged homes, shattered windows and skylights, and battered outdoor areas and vegetation. Heavy downpours also caused rapid rainfall accumulation, waterlogged properties, and localized flash-flood concerns across the North Valley. The storm was part of a broader weather system that also prompted tornado warnings in parts of Arizona.
