On October 22, 2026, in Taitung, Taiwan, @mariodian shared a video filmed at Taitung Seashore Park showing rough seas as Typhoon Champi approached the island. In the video, enormous waves crash against the rocky shoreline, sending white sea foam across the turbulent water. Dark coastal cliffs covered in sparse vegetation rise above the sea beneath a thick blanket of gray storm clouds, while distant hills fade into the mist. According to reports, Typhoon Champi generated dangerous conditions along Taiwan’s eastern coast, with powerful winds and high waves affecting areas beyond its projected path. As the storm approached, authorities suspended domestic flights and canceled hundreds of international flights. Schools and businesses also closed in many areas, while disaster response teams evacuated thousands of residents from vulnerable mountainous communities because of landslide risks.
